According to the Ministry of Health of Myanmar, the first batch of 1 million doses of Myancopharm COVID-19 vaccine jointly produced by China and Myanmar has begun to vaccinate the public since May 4, 2022. Naypyidaw Zebdieri became one of the first batch of vaccination pilot hospitals. The vaccine was jointly produced by the Ministry of Industry of Myanmar and Sinopharm China Biotech.
The COVID-19 vaccine jointly produced by China and Myanmar has been officially put into production since March 23. The semi-finished vaccine is provided by Sinopharm Sinopharm and filled by Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory. The first batch was expected to produce 10 million doses. The project has been implemented since July 2021, signed the relevant cooperation agreement in September 2021, and has been approved by the Ministry of Industry of Myanmar. On December 22, 2021, the signing ceremony of the cooperative production agreement between Sinopharm China Biotech and the Ministry of Industry of Myanmar COVID-19 Vaccine was held in Beijing, China and Yangon, Myanmar by video. Jointly witnessed by Dr. Charlidan, Union Minister of the Ministry of Industry of Myanmar, Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Liu Jingzhen, Chairman of Sinopharm, and Miao Danpei, Myanmar Ambassador to China, Yang Xiaoming, Chief Engineer of Sinopharm, Chairman of China Biotech, and Miao Zaniwen, Executive Director of MPIE Company, Ministry of Industry of Myanmar, respectively signed the Myanmar COVID-19 Vaccine Cooperation Production Agreement on behalf of both parties, and started the sub package production of China COVID-19 Vaccine in Myanmar. Zhu Jingjin, President of Biological Products Division of Sinopharm, presided over the meeting in the venue of China.
On March 23 this year, the launch of China Myanmar cooperative production of COVID-19 vaccine marked the fruitful cooperation between China and Myanmar in filling vaccines, which is of great significance to deepening anti epidemic cooperation and promoting medical and health cooperation between the two countries. As of May 3, more than 30 million people in Myanmar had been vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine, of which more than 23.6 million people had completed the second dose, more than 7.1 million people had completed the first dose, and nearly 1.5 million people had completed the booster dose. The total inoculation amount exceeded 55.94 million doses.
As per the data of the Ministry of Health of Myanmar, as of April 30, the COVID-19 vaccination has covered 91.9% of the population over 18 years old in the country. Most of the COVID-19 vaccines that have been vaccinated in Myanmar are purchased from China or donated by China, which have played a significant role in helping Myanmar control the COVID-19 epidemic.
