The pre-trip training of CMB Global Health Leadership Training Overseas Practice Project was successfully held

The 2022 pre-launch training of China Medical Board (CMB) global health leadership training overseas practice project was successfully held in Beijing from August 21 to 26, 2022. As the domestic executing agency of CMB Global Health Leadership Development Overseas Practice Program, Peking University Health Science Center hosted this pre-trip training. The training activity was rich in content and novel in perspective, which was unanimously praised and affirmed by the participants. A comprehensive pre-trip training combining theory and practice was conducted for the project students who would go overseas in September this year, in an effort to help them better carry out on-site learning and practice of global health.

Under the situation that COVID-19 has swept the world, CMB has built a platform through the Global Health Leadership Training Overseas Practice Project, promoted the private cooperation and exchange in the field of health between China and the developed countries in Europe and the United States, and continued to help China to cultivate young talents in the global health. The overseas implementing agencies of the project, Yale University of Medicine and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, jointly participated in the design and organization of the pre-trip training. In the one week training, through the combination of online and offline channels, more than 30 experts and practitioners at home and abroad who have worked hard in the field of global health for many years not only taught the project participants theoretical knowledge and their profound understanding of the field of global health, but also shared their experience and experience in participating in global health practice with the participants in combination with their own work experience. Meanwhile, participants from various professional backgrounds also communicated with each other through team building activities and course interaction, which laid a good foundation for the upcoming overseas practice and future work collaboration.

A number of leaders and guests in related fields came to guide on the first day of the opening ceremony. Feng Yong, Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, addressed a wonderful keynote speech on "Global Health Development and Diplomacy", which marked the beginning of this training. Han Jixiu, Director of the European and American Division of the International Cooperation Department of the National Health Commission, Barbara J. Stoll, President of the China Medical Board, Xu Ming, Director of the Department of Global Hygiene of the Peking University School of Public Health, and Evelyn Hsieh, Associate Professor of the Yale University of Medicine (Head of the Yale University Project of the CMB Global Health Leadership Training Overseas Practice Project), Sun Qiudan, Director of the International Cooperation Office (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office) of Peking University Health Science Center, and Wang Haijun, Vice Dean of the Peking University School of Public Health, were invited to attend, and they fully affirmed and highly praised the overseas practice project of CMB's global health leadership training.

  Peking University Health Science Center, as the first university in China to establish a global health professional research and teaching entity, cooperated with Yale University of Medicine and University of London, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine to carefully prepare for this pre-trip training. Focusing on global health theory, relevant concepts and classic cases, leaders and experts from the Talent Exchange Service Center of the Health Human Resources Development Center, the Health Development Research Center of the Health Human Resources Development Center, the Yale University of Medicine, the University of London, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and the Peking University School of Public Health gave lectures to students from global health development, important issues in the field of global health, global health governance, health development assistance, global health talent training and other aspects, helping students from different professional fields to systematically and comprehensively understand the global public health.

 Based on the study of global health related theories, CMB paid special attention to the ability improvement of project participants in global health practice, leadership training, career planning and development, etc. CMB Beijing Representative Office actively contacted and coordinates relevant resources, cooperated with Peking University Health Science Center and two overseas projects implementing agencies to design training programs, and invited global health practitioners with rich on-site work experience at home and abroad to participate in teaching. Experts and scholars from CMB Beijing Representative Office, UNAIDS Office in China, Clinton Health Access Initiative (US) Hainan Representative Office, Health Poverty Action (UK) Yunnan Representative Office, University of Minnesota System, Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, China Center for Disease Control and Prevention Global Public Health Center, China Center for Food and Drug International Exchange, Vanke School of Public Health of Tsinghua University, School of Public Health of Fudan University, Duke Kunshan University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Beijing Anding Hospital, Beijing Shijitan Hospital and other institutions, combined with their professional development experience and work fields, introduced their experience and ideas of participating in and carrying out global health field practice to the students in a comprehensive and vivid way, which made the students deeply impressed and benefited a lot.

The training also set up a link for interactive discussion between project participants and tutors in overseas practice bases such as Brazil, Nigeria, the Philippines, Malaysia and Kenya. The teachers and students had in-depth exchanges on the health system of the destination country, the work to be carried out, the difficulties and challenges that may be encountered, and the instructors gave careful answers and pertinent suggestions on various issues of concern to the students. Relevant personnel from the International Cooperation Office of the domestic units where the project participants are located were invited to participate in the training as well.
