Qiao Jie Leads Delegation to 75th WMA General Assembly

President Qiao Jie of Peking University Health Science Center served as head of the Chinese Delegation to the 75th General Assembly of the World Medical Association (WMA) and the 227th/228th WMA Council Sessions held October 16-19 in Helsinki, Finland. Prof. Qiao is Council Member of the WMA and Vice President of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA) for International Exchanges and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs.


Along with Prof. Qiao in the CMA delegation were Prof. Björn Nashan (Director of the Clinic of HPB Surgery and Transplantation at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China), Prof. Cong Yali (Advisor to WMA Medical Ethics Committee and Chair of Chinese Society of Medical Ethics), and Prof. Wang Haibo (First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University).


The WMA Events saw the presence of nearly 200 delegates from 46 countries, as well as President Alexander Stubb of the host country and Assistant Director-General Catharina Boehme of the World Health Organization for External Relations and Governance.

The 75th General Assembly adopted Revision to the WMA Declaration of Helsinki (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects/) which was first developed in 1964.

The CMA delegation was actively engaged in the discussions at the WMA events, which increased the visibility of the CMA among its international peers.
