The Department of Global Health of Peking University School of Public Health applies itself to the construction of a global health cooperation network platform. The construction of overseas research and teaching bases is an important measure to respond to the national strategy "the Belt and Road initiative" and the Tutorial for Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan. The Department is China-based with a global perspective. On the basis of integrating existing overseas resources, it attracts more organizations and institutions to participate in cooperation worldwide, aiming to build an internationally leading global health research and teaching overseas network platform.
The Malawi Research and Teaching Base
The Malawi Research and Teaching Base of Peking University was officially established in November 2017 by the School of Public Health of Peking University and the Malawi Participatory Rural Development Organization (PRDO). It focuses on the building of global health talent. Comprehensive cooperation with Malawi medical schools and medical institutions in the global health, maternal and child health, infectious diseases and health policy. Teachers and students are regularly sent to Malawi every year for medical research and practice. The base plays a role in connecting the governments and peoples of the two countries, as well as the governments and non-governmental organizations. It provides decision-making advice to the Chinese Embassy in Malawi through scientific research and practical activities in the medical field, and medical and health services to local residents and overseas Chinese in Malawi through mutual support with the Chinese medical teams. As the first overseas base in the field of medical research and education of Peking University, Malawi Scientific Research and Teaching Base is a milestone in the globalization of Peking University's medical education.
The Myanmar Global Health Practice Base
The Myanmar Global Health Practice Base of Peking University School of Public Health was officially established in November 2018 by Peking University School of Public Health in cooperation with the Health Poverty Action (HPA) offices in China and Myanmar, which is devoted to creating a mechanism and platform for cooperation and exchange, and promoting cooperation between the governments, university institutions, non-governmental organizations, medical and health institutions of China and Myanmar, in order to jointly realize the development of public health in China and Myanmar. Through overseas internships, practice, investigation and other ways, the Department combined China's health development experience with Myanmar's national conditions, and took the opportunity of country research to carry out research in health system construction, public health security issues and other fields. The establishment of the base has promoted the mutual learning mechanism and strengthened the global health partnership between the two sides.
The Georgia Global Health Practice Base
In June 2019, representatives of Peking University and Tbilisi State University jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic partnership. Georgia is connected to Eurasia with outstanding strategic position and regional advantages, and it is an important base for Peking University to carry out global health cooperation. Peking University is working to build global health partnerships with countries along the Belt and Road, and cultivating health professionals with a global perspective through overseas practice. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will offer both sides in-depth learning opportunities for global health professionals, and will also lay the foundation for China to cultivate global health reserve talents.
