For the sake of implementing the speech spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, Peking University Health Science Center will establish the ASEAN-China Public Health Science and Technology Cooperation Center under the guidance and support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, which will rely on the Peking University School of Public Health, gather Peking University's medical resources for construction, and provide an open platform for ASEAN-China public health science and technology partners to help implement the "the Belt and Road" initiative.

As an important work, the construction of the ASEAN-China Public Health Science and Technology Cooperation Center has been included in the agenda of the 11th Meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation held on June 15, 2022. The meeting was co-chaired by Shao Xinyu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Pei Shiwei, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam. The delegates attended the meeting online or offline. Wang Jiadong, Deputy Director of the Health Science Center, participated in the meeting offline.

At the meeting, Vice Minister Shao Xinyu specifically mentioned that since the outbreak of the COVID-19, China and ASEAN had helped each other to overcome difficulties, shared scientific anti epidemic experience, and carried out vaccine and drug research and development cooperation, demonstrating the great potential of scientific and technological cooperation in the field of public health. The Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China supported Peking University in jointly building an ASEAN-oriented public health science and technology cooperation platform with several domestic institutions, actively linking up with institutions of interest in ASEAN countries, and conducting cooperation in infectious disease prevention and control, public health emergency response, vaccine and drug research and development, epidemic surveillance and personnel training. China welcomes ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat to recommend their universities, research institutions and well-known experts in relevant fields to participate in relevant cooperation and become partners of the Center.

The Peking University Health Science Center has established cooperative relations with several major medical schools in ASEAN, and, with the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN-China Centre, led the construction of the ASEAN-China University Consortium on Medicine and Health, which has a good foundation and channels for cooperation with ASEAN. By exploring the mechanism, path and technical assistance for the establishment of ASEAN-China Public Health Science and Technology Cooperation Center, Health Science Center will continue to promote the establishment of the platform, promote ASEAN-China public health technology cooperation, and benefit the public health security and people's health in China and the ASEAN region. To build a long-term sustainable public health science and technology cooperation platform between China and ASEAN, the Center will work with ASEAN partners to jointly establish a more effective public health cooperation mechanism between China and ASEAN, build a scientific research base, technological innovation base and talent training base for ASEAN-China cooperation on public health science and technology, and promote ASEAN-China public health cooperation to become a new model of regional cooperation in the global health field, and help deepen friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and ASEAN. Guided by solving major public health problems confronted by China and ASEAN countries, the Center will study development strategies to solve major public health problems in China and ASEAN countries, promote public health cooperation enabled by science and technology through scientific research, scientific and technological innovation and personnel training, develop and ensure regional health security, improve people's health level, and ensure social and economic development, and achieve the goal of building a global community of health for all proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping.
