Project commissioned by the Department of Science, Education and International Affairs of the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention, Research on the Health and Security Cooperation Needs and Cooperation Strategies of ASEAN Countries (2022-2023)

ASEAN is the closest neighboring region for China's foreign exchange, and the main source of imported infectious disease in China. Public health security issues, including the prevention and control of infectious diseases, have become a strategic focus of common concern for China and ASEAN countries. China and ASEAN has been deepening cooperation in the field of public health and security over the years, launching the "ASEAN-China Public Health Cooperation Initiative" and the cooperation initiative "ASEAN-China Health Shield", emphasizing all-round cooperation in infectious disease prevention and control and public health emergency response, vaccine and key drug R&D, production and technology transfer, epidemic surveillance, public health system construction and personnel training. On the new starting point of building ASEAN-China strategic partnership in an all-round way, how to carry out public health security cooperation with ASEAN and improve the governance level of China's regional and global public health security is an urgent issue to be explored.

This task aims to tease out and analyze the cooperation requirements of ASEAN countries in the field of health and security, summarize the cooperation mechanism, actions and characteristics of ASEAN-China public health and security, formulate the strategic priorities of China's health and security cooperation through the ASEAN regional cooperation mechanism, and provide suggestions for China to strengthen public health and security cooperation with ASEAN in the future.
